Federal funding for area tourism-related projects

A few tourism-related projects in Nipissing-Timiskaming are receiving FedNor funding.

Nearly $75,000 is going to the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities to promote the benefits of living, working and visiting northern Ontario through a video project.

Mattawa River Resort, meantime, is receiving $100,000 to establish a new fully-serviced 30 site campground for RV’s.

“Northern Ontario’s tourism industry is bouncing back and I am pleased that FedNor continues to fuel the resurgence of this key driver of our regional economic growth,” says Anthony Rota, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming. “As demand returns to pre-pandemic levels and enthusiasm picks up steam, the future looks bright for tourism here in Nipissing-Timiskaming and across the region.”

With September 27th marking the United Nations’ World Tourism Day,  Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor,  announced nearly $9.7 million for 74 tourism projects across the north.

This funding will allow businesses and operators to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed and help create and maintain over 280 jobs,” says Hajdu.  “I invite everyone across the country to put Northern Ontario on their list of places to visit – come and see what spectacular sights and attractions our region has to offer.”

Funding has been made available through both the Tourism Relief Fund and FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program.
