Cycle North Bay ready to roll

A first-of-its-kind cycling event hits the pavement and dirt in the North Bay area this long weekend.

Hundreds of riders will be here for Cycle North Bay.

“Cycle North Bay is the result of a number of organizations coming together to combine their own distinct events under a single banner,” said Race promoter Greg Rawson, of Performance Driven Sports. “North Bay is going to be a hotbed of activity for elite and amateur athletes from across the province. We’re extremely excited.”

Events include the provincial Criterium and road championships, youth road and mountain bike races along with women’s mountain bike exchange, which takes place Saturday.

The provincial Criterium, or mass-start race, is the showcase event and is taking place along Voodoo Crescent, near the airport, on Sunday.

Back in the spring, officials originally said the race would be happening downtown.

Youth road races include a hill climb on College Drive and time trials on Larocque Road on Saturday then a Criterium event on Sunday morning on Voodoo Crescent.

Sunday also features a youth mountain bike event at the Three Towers Trail Network on Tower Drive.

The weekend wraps up on Monday with the provincial road championship with riders competing on a 15-kilometre circuit in East Ferris.
