The Sturgeon Falls Arena will soon have a new name.
On Saturday, July 30, the municipality will be renaming the building in honour of Marcel and Jane Labbé.
The municipality says the renaming is in recognition of Marcel and Jane’s contributions to West Nipissing, which includes the West Nipissing Community and Recreation Centre.
The municipality says Marcel’s vision began the process, and together the couple advocated until an arena was realized. Marcel and Jane campaigned and fundraised as leaders of the Steering Committee for the centre. It is one of the many accomplishments both achieved, including serving on council and various boards, owning many businesses, and much more.
Council decided to go ahead with the renaming earlier in their term.
The ceremony, which will be kicking off at 1 p.m., will have guest speakers along with a plaque unveiling.
