If you’re thinking of running in this fall’s municipal election, the clock is ticking.
The deadline to file and get on the ballot is August 19.
In order to run for office locally, you need to be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, and live in the municipality or be married to someone who does.
If you or your spouse own or rent property in the municipality, but don’t live here, you’re also eligible as long as you meet the other criteria.
People banned from voting aren’t allowed to run.
As of Friday morning, there’s only one candidate for mayor in West Nipissing, Kathleen Thorne Rochon, marketing business owner and former President of the West Nipissing Chamber of Commerce.
There are five councillor candidates, two each in wards 2 and 3 and one candidate so far in ward 6.
Election Day is Monday, October 24.
