UPDATE: Structure fire in Sturgeon Falls

UPDATE: 3:00 pm July 19:

All of the tenants are safe and there are no injuries. That’s according to West Nipissing Fire Chief Frank Loeffen, who also says crews from Sturgeon Falls, Verner and Field attended the fire. He says the older building as well as the heat created challenges for the firefighters. Loeffen says one team remains at the fire scene – which is under control.  He estimated the damage at around $700,000 with the fire still under investigation.   The call originally came in just before six this morning.

Firefighters are on-scene of a fire at the corner of Church St. and William St. in Sturgeon Falls.

Not many details are currently known on the fire, and Moose FM will update as soon as they become available.

A power interruption is currently affecting approx. 45 customers on Church St., William St. and Arthur St. as firefighters as deal with the burning apartment building.

Wendy Watson, Director of Communications for GSU, says power is expected to remain off for several hours and no estimated time of restoration is available.
