15,000 meal kits being packed by Rotary clubs locally

Rotary members in the North Bay area are taking part in an initiative called Kids Against Hunger.

Bill Hagborg, communications director with the Rotary Club of North Bay, says they will be packing 15,000 meal kits on Tuesday.

He says the focus is to feed people in need both in Canada and around the world.

“In our case here, with the food packing in North Bay, the designated recipients are going to be first nations communities in northern Ontario,” he says.

Each meal pack includes a full day’s nutrition for six people, including rice, fortified vegetable protein, dehydrated vegetables, and a special blend of 21 vitamins & minerals.

Hagborg says they have 50 Rotarians and friends taking part in Tuesday’s packing event, but more volunteers are welcome.

“We have a couple of school groups coming out, but there’s always room for more people. If they want to drop by Osprey Links between noon and 4 pm [Tuesday, July 5],” he says. “Even if they can only come for half an hour or an hour, that would be fantastic.”

Hagborg says the local packing event is one of six taking place in cities in Ontario, from Kingston to Windsor.
