Area MP says “people are taking the flag back”

Be proud to fly the Canadian flag.

That from Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota to area residents ahead of Canada Day.

“For a while, I think people were wondering about the flag because where we saw it was with an unsavoury group.  They almost appropriated it,” he says. “But, what I’m noticing is that people are taking the flag back.”

Rota says he’s proudly displaying the flag himself at his home and cottage and had one on his vehicle during the Callander Funfest parade last weekend.

“When I look at the Canadian flag I have a sense of pride and honour and that’s something I want everybody to feel, so fly a flag,” he says. “If we all have flags, it makes the protesters insignificant.”

July 1st marks Canada’s 155th birthday.
