City of North Bay supporting mining sector at PDAC

North Bay has a large presence at the 2022 Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) International Convention in Toronto.

Mayor Al McDonald is there to support the city’s 65 mining-related companies.

“We’re down here, one, to support our local businesses that are here at the largest international mining conference in the world and second, looking for leads to try and attract more business and industry to our city,” he says. “You plant the seed, you look for leads.”

He says 25 local companies are at the convention.

“The mining sector is key to our economy,” he says. “It’s really good to see the crowds that are here, the vendors, our local businesses are saying they have a lot of traffic to their booths.”

McDonald says the one thing they’re hearing from these businesses is the need for employees.

“We have over 600 jobs available in the City of North Bay and we’re doing everything we can to support our local businesses and industry trying to find those people,” he says. “I encourage anyone looking for a job, or position, or career, check out The Labour Market Group or give YES! Employment a call.”

On Monday, McDonald helped cut the ribbon on the FedNor-funded Northern Ontario Mining Showcase pavilion at PDAC, which features more than 100 Northern Ontario businesses and organizations.

The convention runs through Wednesday, June 15.
