LMG details 2022 Local Labour Market Plan

The Labour Market Group (LMG) has completed its 2022 Local Labour Market Plan for the districts of Nipissing and Parry Sound.

“The purpose of the Local Labour Market Plan (LLMP) is to identify significant labour market issues within the districts and set a strategic direction that addresses critical workforce development challenges and puts forth actions that will help alleviate them,” states the plan.

LLMP includes an update of local labour market information and regional analysis, extensive consultation, interviews and focus groups with employers and other community stakeholders.

Statistics included in the plan show that the 3,639 job postings in Nipissing last year were the lowest in the past five years, although they were only slightly below the 3,764 job postings in 2020.

LMG says it’s not a surprise considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the local, provincial and national labour markets.

“There were some obvious spikes in job postings in both June and September of 2021 which coincide with the larger reopening efforts seen in the province of Ontario,” states the report.

Three goals are also included in the action plan.

The first goal is to increase awareness and uptake of programs and services that are available to assist businesses and their hiring needs.

Promoting the availability of employment opportunities in the region is the second goal, while the third is to inform job seekers, stakeholders and agencies of the realities of the local labour market.
