Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is looking forward to its largest fundraising day of the year.
McHappy Day is taking place on Wednesday, May 11.
Ten percent of everything sold at the restaurants locally will be donated to RMHC, the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation and One Kids Place Children’s Treatment Centre.
Kate Horton, RMHC Executive Director, says this is the 28th annual event. “65 percent of Canadians live outside a city with a children’s hospital and when your child is suddenly ill or injured, you can imagine your whole life changes in a nano-second,” she says. “That’s where Ronald McDonald Houses come in. Our houses and family rooms at 33 locations across Canada allow families to stay close to their sick child while they’re receiving treatment.”
Horton says on top of a place to stay, the houses offer all the comforts of home including laundry, nutritious meals, fitness and recreation centres and a caring community of other families travelling on the same journey.
“Sometimes that is what makes the biggest difference for families staying at RMHC, sit down and connect with another family, have a cup of coffee, chat and really re-fill their cup before they go out and care for their child just steps away at the hospital,” she says.
Every year, the RMHC network of programs in Canada helps to keep more than 26,000 families close to their sick child and the care they need.
