Province invests over $10M in NBRHC

$10 million from the province is being provided to the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC).

The funding includes a $2.2 million reimbursement for the hospital’s lost revenue during the pandemic as well as a one-time $8 million top-up investment to address additional operating financial pressures.

The funding is in addition to the $2.6 million in COVID reimbursements announced in January, $1.9 million in March, and $2.4 million in additional operating funding announced for the 2021/22 year.

Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says the hospital has been a bedrock for our community.

“Our government will continue to make historic investments in healthcare, so everyone has access to timely, quality care that is close to home,” he adds.

Paul Heinrich, President and CEO of NBRHC says the funding removes the burden of financial uncertainty and allows the team to focus on providing the best care for patients.

Since the start of pandemic, provincial officials say the government has worked with its hospital partners to build unprecedented capacity and ensure that Ontarians have access to care. This includes $5.1 billion to add 3,100 beds across the province for a total of approximately 17,000 medical and surgical beds. Through additional investments, the province now has a total of 2,436 adult and pediatric ICU beds.
