Nipissing University celebrating ‘Research Month’

March is ‘Research Month’ at Nipissing University. 

The post-secondary school is celebrating research contributions at the undergraduate, graduate and faculty level.  

A free event next Thursday (March 24) at the NUSU Student Centre highlights events being held to encourage the public to discover research.

NU360 Speaker Night features presentations by faculty on their COVID-19 related research and its relevance to the community.

Presentations will include:    

  • Mapping and assessing potential changes in the spatial distribution of criminal activities in the City of North Bay, Ontario, during the COVID-19 pandemic – Dr. John Kovacs, Professor, Department of Geography & Geology  
  • Community Service in a Time of Coronavirus: The Impact of COVID-19 on Volunteering and Experiential Learning in the Non-Profit Sector in North Bay and surroundings areas – Dr. Manuel Litalien, Associate Professor, Department of Social Welfare & Social Development & Dr. Natalya Brown (co-investigator), Associate Professor, School of Business & Department of Economics  
  • Business Coping Strategies through the COVID-19 Crisis – Dr. Denyse Lafrance Horning, Associate Professor, School of Business 
  • Conducting neuroendocrinology research during a global pandemic  – Dr. Justin Carré, Associate Professor, Psychology 

“Research Month is an opportunity for us to open our doors to the community and shine a light on the world-class research taking place here,” said Dr. Jim McAuliffe, Dean of Graduate Studies & Research. “Our students and faculty are engaged in research across many different disciplines which speaks to the talent and diversity of our Nipissing community and the variety of opportunities available at all levels.”

On March 30, the 15th Annual Undergraduate Research Conference will once again take place virtually, offering undergraduate students across Ontario the chance to share their work.
