A significant fundraiser for the Gathering Place Soup Kitchen is fast approaching.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a family-friendly walk that will be taking place virtually again this year on Sat. Feb 26.
Gathering Place Executive Director Dennis Chippa says teams of people from around the North Bay area will then venture out on their own walk.
“We want to make this regional in nature, our work is now regional in nature so we wanted to bring in some of the other communities as well,” he says. “They can walk in their own community, they can walk in their own neighbourhood.”
Chippa says the fundraising goal is $35,000, which will go to direct operations of the kitchen.
“It goes towards things like our outreach project, which is now producing about a thousand meals a week to various areas within our own community and within Sturgeon Falls, Mattawa and we have been going into some communities south of us as well,” he says.
Chippa says the funds raised also support the basic needs of the kitchen, including heat, hydro and buying food, too.
