One of the biggest stories in West Nipissing this year was when 10-year-old Alexi Levak went missing in a wooded area in Lavigne. The youngster was blueberry picking on July 15th when she got lost and became the object of an intense air and ground search. The search had a happy ending because a helicopter found Alexi the next morning and directed the ground party to her area. The youngster was in good shape despite what must have been a terrifying overnight ordeal alone in the woods. Alexi was found about three kilometers west of the campground where her family was staying.
