Two fatal collisions in the region on Saturday

Ontario Provincial Police report two separate fatal collisions in the region on the weekend. 

Just before 1:30 am on Saturday Nipissing West OPP responded to a collision on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren.

The preliminary investigation says a westbound vehicle and an eastbound vehicle collided head-on.  

One of the drivers, 42-year-old Larry Pearce of West Nipissing was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The other driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Highway 17 was closed for about seven hours after the crash. 

The OPP says the investigation continues.

They also say the incident was not related to the convoy of Commercial Motor Vehicle traveling towards Ottawa.

Meanwhile, Almaguin OPP report a 57-year-old Utterson resident has died after a single motorized snow vehicle crash on the weekend.  

The OPP says the incident happened on an Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) trail in Armour Township around 11 am on Saturday.  

The investigation determined that the operator was ejected, struck a tree and shortly after was pronounced deceased at the scene by the coroner. 

The trail was closed for several hours after the crash.
