COVID-19 outbreak declared at WNGH

The West Nipissing General Hospital is facing a COVID-19 outbreak.

The outbreak, announced today (Jan. 26), is in the Nursing Care Unit where three patients have tested positive.

The hospital says several measures have been taken to help patients and keep the virus from spreading. These include putting all patients in appropriate units/rooms, testing of all patients who are considered close contact and enhanced cleaning.

The unit is closed to all visitors and caregivers.

Officials say they will continue to work with our local health unit.

It is the first COVID-19 outbreak at the hospital and the first outbreak of any kind in the past four years.

Meantime, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting another COVID-19 death in the region.

It’s the 13th since the start of the pandemic and the tenth in Nipissing.
