North Bay and District Humane Society benefiting from the Betty White Challenge

A worldwide movement to honour what would have been Betty White’s 100th birthday is benefiting the North Bay and District Humane Society, which serves the West Nipissing area.

Fans of the late actress made donations to local animal causes as a part of the Betty White Challenge, resulting in over $9,600 for the Humane Society, as of Tuesday morning.

“We are overwhelmed by the community’s generosity,” says Humane Society executive director Liam Cullin. “On Monday, on what would have been Betty’s 100th birthday, the donations flooded in – every two minutes, another gift came in.”

Donations support a variety of programs and services and help to pay for medicine, dietary food, treatments, rehabilitation and lab work for the more than 2,000 animals the local shelter sees each year.

“We rely on the generosity of the public to help animals in need,” says shelter manager Janet Bredin. “The donations we’ve received will go a long way to helping animals thrive so they can find forever homes.”

There are currently more than 100 companion animals in-care at the North Bay Humane Society.
