COVID-related school closures a possibility

In-person learning returns next week at schools locally and across the province.
However, in a letter to parents, the Near North District School Board is urging parents to make contingency plans in case of COVID-related school closures.
The board says along with many workplaces they’re expecting staff shortages because of the transmissibility of the Omicron variant of the virus.
They say schools will be closed if they are not able to safely operate with the number of available staff.
“The announcement may be made the night before, the morning of the closure, or possibly even during the day in certain circumstances,” states the letter. “We understand the lack of notice will be problematic for many families. Unfortunately, it is a reality we face, and we want to give families advance notice so they may make contingency plans if their child’s school is closed.”
NNDSB says notice will be given to affected families through SchoolMessenger and shared on the board’s social media accounts.
They say online learning will take place if a school is closed.
