North Bay council striking three special review comittees

North Bay city council is creating three review committees.  The committees are the initiatives of mayor Al McDonald.  One committee will look at next year’s budget process  and report to council by August 15th.  The other two committees involve developing a long-term financial plan and reviewing the water rates.  Both of these committees report on September 8th and the water group is expected to develop options to bring about lower rates.  Councillors George Maroosis, Jeff Serran and Mark King commended the mayor for moving the ball forward on forming these committees.  Meanwhile, McDonald is getting public support on creating the water rates review committee.  Resident Gary Gardiner says this eliminates the need of going to the Ontario Ombudsman of Human Rights Commission.   Gardiner still believes residents will experience sticker shock when they start getting their metred water bills come September.  But he says the amounts are bearable in the short term if council’s water rate committee comes up with a more equitable billing model.
