Callander’s St. Theresa Catholic School dealing with COVID-19 outbreak

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School in Callander.

The school remains open with a class dismissed.

The Health Unit says they were made aware of the first positive case on Tuesday, November 16th.

Parents and guardians were informed and the class was dismissed.

The public health agency says they learned of the second case from the same class on Thursday, November 18th.

“The outbreak is at a location where many of the individuals are not yet eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19,” explains Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health. “We continue to work with St. Theresa Elementary School and the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board and thank them both for their quick response.”

Parents and guardians from two East Ferris Bus Lines (#203 and #245) were also contacted and advised of next steps.

Those attending the YMCA childcare program at the school were also contacted and dismissed.

The Health Unit says a COVID-19 outbreak is declared in a school setting when two or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 have an epidemiological link.
