It’s always busy season for the West Nipissing Fire Service.
This time of year, however, they’re busy for a different reason.
For the second year in a row, the service is partnering with Moose FM to hold its annual West Nipissing Santa Fund fundraiser which gives toys to children, and food to families during the holiday season.
Since the 1960’s local families and children have benefitted from the Fund.
“The firefighters back then would collect used toys and repair and repaint broken ones to hand out to the kids. Their original budget was $100,” says WNFS Chief Richard Maranda. “It’s definitely evolved a lot more since then and we’re giving out quite a bit of toys. Our goal is to always make sure every child and family has a decent Christmas.”
The Santa Fund Radiothon also features an auction that went live on Thursday. It features many items from local residents, businesses and organizations.
The auction will take place Nov. 18 to Nov. 25.
“Last year’s auction was very successful. The community has always supported us year after year and we commend them for helping us out as much as they do. Without the community we wouldn’t be able to do this,” said Maranda.
The radiothon goes live on Nov. 26. from 6 am to 6 pm. All proceeds will go to the West Nipissing Santa Fund.
