Multiple charges after incident that closed Highway 17 Monday

A 32-year-old Noelville resident is facing several charges including flight from police and racing a motor vehicle.

This after an incident that resulted in Highway 17 east of Sturgeon Falls being closed Monday afternoon.

The Ontario Provincial Police reports Nipissing West officers observed a vehicle travelling at high rates of speed on Highway 64 south.

It’s alleged the vehicle failed to stop for police and proceeded eastbound on Highway 17.

For the public’s safety, OPP and Anishinabek Police stopped both east and westbound traffic.

The OPP reports the vehicle pulled over on the shoulder as spike belts were being set up near Little Sturgeon River on Highway 17.

It’s alleged the vehicle attempted to leave the scene and collided with a police cruiser.

The woman also faces charges of dangerous operation and resist peace officer.

She has a January 6th court appearance in Sturgeon Falls.

Highway 17 was closed for about two hours during the investigation.
