NOSM holding consultation session with area residents

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is looking for input from area residents.

This as they evolve into Canada’s first stand-alone medical university.

A town hall session is being held Monday night in North Bay with Dr Sarita Verma, NOSM Dean, President and CEO.

They’re consulting with northern communities to shape their priorities.

NOSM says both North Bay and West Nipissing regularly host medical students, resident doctors and other health sciences learners.

Teaching happens in clinics, at hospitals and in family health teams at 16 sites in North Bay and seven in West Nipissing.

Thirty-eight NOSM graduates are practising in North Bay with another five in Sturgeon Falls.

They also say the number of faculty members in North Bay is 123 while 13 are in West Nipissing.

According to NOSM’s estimates, more than 300 physicians are needed across the north, including 26 in North Bay.

Monday evening’s consultation session is taking place from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Grande Event Centre on Main Street East.

Residents can join the WebEx videoconference meeting

Or join by phone: +1-855-699-3239  Access code: 161 563 7159

NOSM encourages those interested to sign up early as the event has limited in-person seating.
