First female commanding officer for two units at 22 Wing

Two units at 22 Wing CFB North Bay have their first female commanding officer.

United States Air Force (USAF) Lt.-Col. Juliana Bruns took over command of Detachment 2, First Air Force and the 22 Wing Operations Support Squadron in early September.

“Lieutenant-Colonel Bruns has been entrusted with the greatest honour bestowed on any member of the military, that of command,” said Brigadier-General Derek O’Malley, Deputy Commander of the Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Region/Joint Forces Air Component Commander.  “This trust is due to the incredible integrity and capability Juliana has brought to every position held in the United States Air Force.  In addition, leading the personnel of Detachment 2, First Air Force is a privilege because of its success and long-standing history in North Bay.”

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to take command of Detachment 2 First Air Force, and Operations Support Squadron. The personnel that make up these two units fill fundamental responsibilities in NORAD, and I know I can count on each of you to perform at your highest level, so join me to get right to work.” said Lt-Col Bruns.

Lt.-Col Bruns has been a member of the United States Air Force for 17 years.
