Two people from Sturgeon Falls facing assault with a weapon charge

Two people from Sturgeon Falls are facing an assault with a weapon charge.

On Oct. 24, Nipissing West OPP officers responded to the assault call on Cemetery Road in Field.

The force says the investigation saw two parties had pointed a firearm at another individual and fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers attended the scene and observed the vehicle in question and both parties were arrested. The firearm was seized along with ammunition and the individual’s Possession Acquisition Licence (PAL).

The driver, a 55-year-old, has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(2) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) of the CC
  • Pointing a firearm, contrary to section 87 of the CC

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to attend North Bay court at a later date.

The passenger, a 33-year-old, has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267(2) of the CC

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Sturgeon Falls Court of Justice at a later date.

The identities of the accused are not being released to protect the identity of the victims.
