Residents in Field and across West Nipissing are one step closer to getting a new outdoor rink.
The Field Outdoor Rink project has been in the works for a long time and years of fundraising and planning have been done.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, councillors passed a resolution confirming their financial commitment of $150,000 to the project.
Though it was already in the budget, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, which is funding $500,000 to the project, needed the resolution passed as part of their due diligence; standard practice for the organization.
The Caisse Alliance also pledged $125,000 to the project and residents have raised $40,000.
The project, which will see a complete rebuild of the existing rink, including a new foundation, rink boards and lights, will also see a cover built that’s currently projected to be made out of wood.
Tendering will soon begin with the estimated costs returning to council in the near future.
