Some good news for Duchesnay residents and those commuting to and from North Bay.

Nipissing First Nation’s administration says Highway 17B is now open.

The finishing touches were completed on Saturday.

Officials say the team at Nipissing Miller worked through a number of challenges during the bridge replacement project related to both the new type of construction as well as COVID-related impacts. NFN is commending everyone’s hard work through every step of the project.

The first stage of the project was completed back in August. The second stage, completed over the weekend, included reducing the hill between the entrance to Duchesnay and Highway 17, as well as creating a new entrance into Duchesnay.

Officials said back in August the bridge replacement project had a significant impact on area residents and businesses for the past two years.
