UPDATE: OPP investigate suspicious package in Sturgeon Falls

UPDATE:

The Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the vehicle on John Street, Nipissing West (Sturgeon Falls) and determine the suspicious package was unfounded and there was no danger to public safety.

The area has been re-open and a return to the area has been permitted.

 

 

 

Some residents have been evacuated as the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a suspicious package in Sturgeon Falls. 

Constable Robert Lewis, Media Relations/Community Safety Officer, says they were contacted Tuesday morning.

“At approximately 10:41 am, officers from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to an incident with a suspicious package that was located in a vehicle on John Street, West Nipissing (Sturgeon Falls),” he says. 

Residences within one block of the area have been evacuated as a precaution. 

Lewis says one OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) from North Bay is on the scene with another from Orillia en route to assist with the investigation.   

The OPP is asking all residents to avoid the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
