Provincial funding helping One Kids Place address waitlists

Brenda Loubert, Executive Director at One Kids Place, says the recent announcement of over a million dollars to the organization is very welcomed news.

“The money was announced in the provincial budget. We were listening for the announcement. We had no idea of the magnitude. It’s absolutely a very welcomed allotment of dollars,” she said.
Loubert adds that children’s treatment centres (CTC) across Ontario have not been funded with this magnitude for a number of years.

The funding is part of $60 million in new money being provided across the province annually, starting this year.

Loubert says local families will benefit from the funds, as the organization will be tackling on waitlists.

“We have a number of people on waitlists, but we also have significant times when those referrals get picked up for service. That’s CTC’s across the province, not just [One Kids Place]. We’re pleased to be able to address that. It’s been a challenge for families. Particularly in the developmental years for family members having to wait. And it’s been difficult given the restraints that we have.”

Loubert says the organization is now looking at the best mechanisms and most efficient ways to utilize the funds to shorten the waitlists. She is also anticipating new hires in various disciplines to also help alleviate wait times.
