Province issues flood watch for the North Bay District

A Flood Watch has been issued for the North Bay District until Tuesday, August 3rd.

That from the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry.

Officials say the rain event on Saturday, July 24th, brought over 100mm (approximately double the forecasted rainfall) to the area, from the Tilden Lake area to the southern reaches of the North Bay District.

Additional precipitation is expected through next week.

The North Bay District, which stretches from West Nipissing to Mattawa in the east and from Powassan to Temagami in the north, is currently operating dams in response to the weekend’s rainfall event.

Flooding from Saturday’s rainfall event has been reported in the Port Loring area and it’s expected that more flooding has and may occur in low-lying areas with a history of flooding.

The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions.
