Fifth death in the region due to COVID-19

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting a person has passed away in Nipissing District who tested positive for COVID-19.

This is the fifth death related to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and the fourth in Nipissing.

Out of respect for the individual’s family and friends, no further information will be provided by the Health Unit.

“I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the individual’s family and friends. My thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” shares Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health. “COVID-19 is very much still present in our district, and every loss is devastating. Everyone must continue to protect themselves and others by following public health measures and getting fully vaccinated.”

Five new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday.

All of them are in Nipissing District.

With 21 resolved cases there are 45 active cases with five people in hospital.

In terms of outbreaks, 42 cases are related to the North Bay Jail and five are related to the outbreak at the Faith Chapel.

Over 40 percent of adults in the district are fully vaccinated.

The Health Unit, meantime, says vaccination clinics have been added to the schedule for North Bay.

Appointments are also available in West Nipissing, Mattawa and Parry Sound.  These clinics will take place between July 6 and July 18, 2021.

Starting at 8 o’clock Monday morning, children and youth ages 12 to 17 locally and across Ontario will be eligible to book an accelerated second dose appointment to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
