Low water levels on Lake Nipissing

A low water notice has been issued for Lake Nipissing.

The Municipality of West Nipissing says that the announcement is from Public Services and Procurement Canada.

Officials with the federal agency say the levels on Lake Nipissing are slightly below their typical summer operating range.

It’s thanks to consecutive months of below-average rainfall.

They also say with little precipitation in the short-term forecast, they’re anticipating levels will continue to slowly decline on the lake until the watershed receives significant rainfall.

Water levels on the French River are expected to remain relatively stable as the river dams continue to pass near minimum outflows.

Users of the lake are urged to be cautious as there may be additional hazards present due to the low water conditions.
