New mine opens in Sudbury

Sudbury keeps booming along.  The city has opened its first mine in more than 40 years.  It’s the Totten Mine, located in nearby Worthington, and is owned by Vale.  Totten will produce copper, nickel and precious metals over the next 20 years and employ about 200 people.  The official opening included Premier Kathleen Wynne who says the Totten Mine is important for the north’s prosperity.  Members of the nearby Sagamok First Nation were also at the opening.  Vale has signed a benefits agreement with Sagamok where the mining company will share the mine’s economic benefits with the reserve.
