Norgalv officially opens galvanizing plant in North Bay

Northern Ontario’s only galvanizing plant is in operation in North Bay.

Norgalv officially opened their new 32,500 square foot facility at the Airport Industrial Park with a virtual ceremony on Friday, welcoming guests and government officials from around the world.

Andre van Soelen, Managing Director of Norgalv thanked several partners, including all three levels of government, for helping them get the plant built and operational over the past 18 months.

“We’ve been through a lot on this journey and we could never have reached our destination without the valuable assistance from certain companies, institutions and individuals,” he says.

Vic Fedeli, Nipissing MPP, says the new plant has already added more employees.

“They said they would have 20 employees and here they are today at 34 people, as Andre has often said ‘galvanizing their hearts out’, that was adorable Andre, that just tells you the passion that you have and your people have.  You’ve got a second shift now and of course, you’re talking about a third shift,” he says.

Noam Sugarman, Commercial Manager at Norgalv, says the spirit and attitude of everyone that came together for the project, including the private sector and all levels of government, was to get the project done and done right, which fits with their company values when galvanizing.

“For any other companies out there, northern Ontario, we couldn’t imagine a better place to put a business like this. It’s springtime in northern Ontario and there are new investments coming up all over the place and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it,” he says.

Officials previously said the plant could eventually employ upwards of 45 to 50 people.
