West Nipissing looks to province to help fund Field Outdoor Rink Project

The municipality will be looking to the province to help fund the Field Outdoor Rink Project.

On Tuesday, council voted for Stephan Poulin, Director of Economic Development and Community Services, to apply to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation’s Rural Enhancement Funding Stream. The stream could potentially fund up to 75% of the total eligible cost with a maximum contribution of $500,000.

Under the program, repairs or improvements to recreational facilities are considered eligible projects.

The municipality staff report says the scope of work for the Field outdoor rink includes demolition of existing infrastructure, an engineering plan, rink surface construction, roof construction and more. The estimated project cost is anywhere between $700,000 and $850,000.

The municipality staff report shows that the municipality would give $150,000 to the project, with the NOHFC (potentially) providing $500,000, $125,000 from the Caisse Alliance, and $40,000 in community fundraising.
