Council wants area highways re-evaluated

West Nipissing council wants action on winter road maintenance standards following extreme driving conditions last month. Council says during the last week of January provincially-contracted road crews did not maintain minimum standards on Highways 17 and 64. It says as a result that created extreme driving conditions for residents and motorists in general passing through the area. Council wants the province to re-evaluate the minimum standard for both roadways and wants Highways 575 and 539 included in the re-evaluation. Recently the Ministry of Transportation penalized some of its contractors for not maintaining minimum winter road standards.
