As expected, North Bay homeowners are not happy with the water meter rate council has struck. Gary Gardiner told council repeatedly that under the new rate, homeowners will pay way more for their water than multi-residential people. Gardiner says he learned this by digging deep into the consultant’s report which has examples of who pays what. He says a 50 unit condo will pay a grand total of about $7 monthly on the fixed amount of the rate while homeowners get saddled with an average monthly bill of $31. Gardiner blames city staff for not better informing councillors on the details of the report. The water rates of a 60 percent fixed cost and 40 percent variable take effect in September.
