Nickel Belt MP accepts new role, added responsibility

Nickel Belt’s Member of Parliament has had some new responsibilities added to his list.

Marc Serré shared yesterday that he has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Natural Resources Minister, Seamus O’Regan.

“I’m very honoured,” said Serré. “Natural resources are a big part of our economy here in northern Ontario. I’m very much looking forward to working with Seamus. Natural resources have been a passion of mine since being elected. In West Nipissing, Nipissing, Greater Sudbury and all across Northern Ontario, there are so many jobs related to the sector be it mining or forestry and everything in-between.”

Serré says despite his added responsibilities in his new role, he remains focused on his responsibilities here at home.

“I’m proud and honoured to represent West Nipissing, Nickel Belt and our entire region. With this new role comes projects all across the country and added responsibilities, but I’m still focused on our priorities. Whether it’s high-speed internet, our seniors, infrastructure projects… This gives me a stronger voice in Ottawa. I love my MP role and working with local organizations and people. This is an opportunity to serve my country in a different capacity,” said Serré.

Serré shares that across Northern Ontario there are over 25,000 jobs relating to our natural resources.

“For that reason, it’s so important for us to keep our youth here in the north. We need good-paying jobs to do that. It’s my job to leverage federal and provincial investments by working with the private sector and help create those jobs,” finished Serré.
