DNSSAB continues looking into ambulance takeover

The District of Nipissing Social Servies Administration Board (DNSSAB) has made another move in hopes of taking over the region’s ambulance services.

The board has hired Robert Smith as its Chief of EMS to conduct an in-depth analysis of ambulance delivery from the agency.

DNSSAB signalled its intent to take over ambulance services from the North Bay Regional Health Centre in January, citing it is one of the few boards in the province that does not run its region’s EMS.

Smith joins DNSSAB having 36 years of experience in the paramedic system. He held roles with the Toronto Department of Ambulance Services and the Ministry’s Air Ambulance system as one of the early Critical Care Paramedics.

Smith also served as chief of paramedic services for the Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board.

“DNSSAB is extremely pleased to have Rob join its executive leadership team and looks forward to his review of the system which will be undertaken in coordination with community partners and working with ambulance operations senior leadership,” stated Catherine Matheson, DNSSAB CAO.

Mark King, chair of DNSSAB, says Smith will provide valuable input on an important board issue.
