Even though North Bay council hasn’t yet decided what rate to put on water meters, some protocols have been worked out. For example if your pipes freeze and the problem is on the city side, you won’t be penalized for running your water if the city okays it. If a neighbour gives you water when you don’t have any, that person first needs city approval to avoid being charged for using extra water. Snowbirds can turn off their water but they still have to pay for the fixed amount of the bill during their vacation. One practice that disappears under a water meter rate system in North Bay is watering lawns on even and odd days. With part of the bill based on consumption, City Hall is getting rid of the numbering system. Although no rate has yet been set, the goal remains for the price structure to take effect July 1st.
