Single COVID-19 case reported today, local cases decline in last half of January

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit is reporting one new case of COVID-19.

The case is in the Parry Sound District.

There are now seven active cases of COVID-19 in the region, five of which are in the Nipissing District.

Since January 20, there have been eight cases of the coronavirus reported in the region.

After high numbers of cases were reported at the beginning of 2021, the Health Unit says things have levelled off.

“While the Health Unit saw a peak in the number of local COVID-19 cases in the first half of January, cases steadily declined in the last half of January while additional restrictions were imposed,” the Health Unit stated.

Tobogganing hills, skating rinks and snowmobile trails were all closed in the days following the announcement of a provincial stay-at-home order.

The Health Unit says those closures will remain in place until the end of the stay-at-home order (February 9), at which point the situation will be re-evaluated.

“The Health Unit relies on everyone to do their part in following the Stay-at-Home Order and keep each other safe,” the Health Unit states.

The NBPSDHU adds it has not received any complaints of people trying to use the closed rinks, hills and trails, adding they are monitored by local law enforcement.
