Motel bomb threat made by prank caller

A prank call of a bomb threat has police reminding the public of the danger of false calls to emergency crews.

Just after midnight on Wednesday, police, fire and paramedics were called to a motel on Lakeshore Drive to respond to the threat of a bomb.

After securing the area, police found the threat was a prank call from a young person.

No criminal charges were laid in the investigation, but police confirm social services agencies are now involved.

Police say there is no risk to public safety, but do underline the potential harm caused by prank calls.

“When Emergency Services respond to a call there is always a potential for something to

go wrong. Prank calls require a response and potentially take away services that may be required at a real emergency,” the North Bay Police Service stated.
