Nipissing University creates Indigenous student awards

Indigenous students at Nipissing University could get some financial support thanks to a new scholarship fund offered by the school.

Up to eight scholarships consisting of $5,000 each will be awarded to students with high academic achievement in science, technology, environmental science, math and Indigenous studies.

The money comes through a $75,000 donation over three years from CIBC.

Cheryl Sutton, interim President and Vice-Chancellor at Nipissing, says it is important to maintain the relationships between the university and surrounding Indigenous communities.

“The relationships between Nipissing University and the communities we serve are vital, and this financial support for Indigenous learners is essential for students interested in bridging Indigenous and traditional knowledge with their program of choice to make a positive impact in communities across Northern Ontario.”
