Two men facing 10 charges after police stop them three times in seven hours

A 33-year-old and a 36-year-old from the Ottawa area are facing a total of 10 charges as well as three of their vehicles being towed after Nipissing West OPP stopped them three times in only a matter of hours.

OPP Constable Michelle Coulombe says that they were first stopped Sunday evening doing 130 km/h in a 60km/h zone in the Espanola area. She says the driver had a suspended license and a small amount of suspected Cannabis. He was then charged with stunt driving, two counts of driving while under suspension and driving while cannabis is readily available.

He was given another seven day driver’s license suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in Espanola court in March.

The 36-year-old passenger was released unconditionally.

Later that night, at 1:30 am, the same two were stopped at a RIDE spot check on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls.

Police stopped the vehicle and an investigation showed that it was the same driver who was charged earlier in the evening in Baldwin Township. The 36-year-old passenger was also in the vehicle.

The 33-year-old was once again charged while driving under suspension, served another seven-day driver license suspension, and the vehicle, which police say was purchased sometime after being released by Officers in Espanola, was also impounded.

He was then released and scheduled to appear in Sturgeon Falls Court in March.

At 2:30 am, Coulombe says that OPP officers stopped a vehicle with no tail lights on Highway 17, near Coursol Road in Sturgeon Falls. This time, the driver was a 36-year-old, who had a G1 license.  Coulombe says that the plates on the vehicle were also not authorized.

He was charged with being unaccompanied by a qualified driver, driving without proper rear lights, as well as not using the proper plates.

In total, three vehicles were towed, two were impounded and 10 charges were laid by Nipissing West OPP in less than seven hours.
