The Blind River man who died in a collision with a tractor trailer Thursday near Blind River was an off-duty OPP officer. Thirty-six-year-old David Dennie was in his SUV about a kilometer east of the town on Highway 17 when the crash occurred. Dennie was a constable with the East Algoma OPP and had worked at the Blind River office for about 12 years. His co-workers describe the constable as big-hearted and was always around for a helping hand. Several years ago Dennie received a life-saving award after he and fellow officers pulled off a water rescue of two men in December of 2006. Commissioner Chris Lewis met with Dennie’s wife after the collision. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
