OPP seize dog on Railway St., owner faces resisting arrest charges

A Sturgeon Falls woman is facing various resisting arrest charges.

On Oct. 7, the OPP says that officers attended the home on Railway Street in Sturgeon Falls.

Officers say they were executing a search warrant to take her dog away for public safety reasons as the dog had been involved in four attacks involving both people and dogs in the past months.

They say the homeowner refused to open the door, and they had to force their way in. Once inside, she was found with the dog in a locked home and once again refused to open the door.

The OPP says officers forced that door open, and the then accused became combative and assaulted the officers and resisted arrest.

As a result, the 34-year-old was charged with:

Obstruct Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);

Assault a Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC; and

Resist Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC.

They are scheduled to appear at the Sturgeon Falls courtroom on Nov. 19.

The dog was seized and turned over to the North Bay and District Humane Society.
