Municipality postpones fitness centre, arena opening dates

The Municipality is postponing the opening of the Sturgeon Falls Fitness Centre and Arena.

In August, council had voted on re-opening the facilities in early October.

Communications and Corporate Services Officer, Kimberly Cuillerier, shared earlier this morning that in light of the increase of COVID-19 cases across Ontario, the facilities are now scheduled to re-open, tentatively, on October 19.

“If the numbers continue to increase, or further restrictions and guidelines are imposed by the Province and/or health officials, the reopening may be further delayed,” she said in a release. “The health and well-being of our residents and staff is our priority. It is best to delay the opening of these facilities and welcome residents back safely, rather than reopening and potentially having to shut down again.”

The release states that though the Nipissing Parry Sound District is not seeing a large number of cases, the municipality must continue to stay the course to ensure the numbers stay low.

The municipality will continue monitoring developments over the course of the next few weeks, and an update will be provided as the reopening date gets closer.
