60-year-old charged with impaired and drug possession

A 60-year-old Sturgeon Falls man has been charged with impaired and drug possession.

The OPP says early Monday morning the man was stopped on Arthur Street on his bike because it didn’t have a red light.

After talking to the driver he was arrested for impaired.

Officers also found a small amount of drugs suspected to be Cannabis and Methamphetamine.

The man was charged with:

Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);

Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC;

Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, contrary to section 12(1) of the Cannabis Control Act, 2017; and

No Red Light on Rear of Object, contrary to section 62(24) of the Highway Traffic Act.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in Sturgeon Falls court on November 5. He was also issued a 90-day licence suspension and the e-bike was impounded for 7 days.

This is the 40th person to be charged in the Nipissing West Detachment area this year.
