Severe thunderstorm warning – ended

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
West Nipissing – French River
At 10:33 a.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Georgian Bay to Sturgeon Falls, moving east at 60 km/h.

Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts.

Locations impacted include:

North Bay, West Nipissing, Restoule Provincial Park, Restoule, South Bay Provincial Park, Wolseley Bay, West Bay, Notre Dame du Lac, Northwest Bay, Middle West Bay, Verner, Little Wolf Lake, Pine Lake, Five Mile Bay, Dokis, Field, Cache Bay, Sturgeon Falls, Chebogomog Lake, Keystone Camps,Stormy Lake, Restoule Lake and Meadowside.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
