YMCA takes it outside

The North Bay YMCA is looking forward to having live classes once again, as they begin to host outdoor classes starting next week.

The classes will take part behind the North Bay YMCA, and the participant’s well-being is the Y’s top priority.

“We are keeping the classes to 10 people; so one instructor and 9 participants,” said Jay Mater, North Bay YMCA Branch manager. “We are also not providing access to our washrooms or providing equipment. So people attending the classes will have to bring their own and then simply head home to shower.”

Despite offering virtual classes over the last seven weeks, Mater and his staff are thrilled to be back in person.

“It’s so exciting. For the virtual ones… it’s just an instructor in front of a phone with a bit of music playing. This feels a lot more like we’re going back to normal and that we’re on our way. We can’t wait!” he said.

The classes offered will be Tuesday’s ‘Dynamic Boxing’, and Thursday’s ‘Boot Camp’. Mater shares that the classes saw about 45 participants before the pandemic.
“If these go well, we want to bring different classes. We have a few instructors that have reached out to us and are willing. Nothing’s confirmed yet but we’re looking to offer more if we can.” finished Mater.

The classes will be held behind the YMCA.

Registration is required for the classes and you can do so by calling the YMCA at 705-497-9622.
